Valentine's Weekend, AKA A Very Babysitting Weekend

An addendum to my last post: the man's shoe print I saw most likely belonged to the roofer that was at the house earlier that day!

Many of you know that Valentine's Day is not my favorite holiday. It's not because I'm single and so it becomes a depressing holiday. It's actually a fairly uneventful day for me. I just don't get all the hype about the holiday. I would much rather be surprised on a day that is not commercialized than have someone spend a lot of extra money on me because the calendar says they have to. In years past, I have most often gone to the movies to see the most recent romantic comedy. This year I babysat instead.

Anyway...enough about that rant. It was actually a very good weekend filled with lots of surprise "gifts" that made me feel very special. It started at work on Friday. My boss, who is amazing, by the way, gave us all a Dove chocolate, a pink carnation, and our drink of choice (Dr. Pepper for me, of course!). Then I went to pick up the three siblings I see so that I could take them to Fired Up. The girl gave me a picture she colored and all three of them gave me a sheet of Valentine's stickers--Pokemon, Rugrats, and cats. Then Friday evening I had the privilege of babysitting so Helen and Mike could go to the Valentine's banquet at church. Isaac, their 7 month old gave me a rose and a card! Side note, when I exclaimed about the flower to Anna and asked her what she thought of the flower Isaac got for me, she said, "Mommy bought the flower." I couldn't convince her it was from Isaac!

Saturday morning was the Marriage Conference at church. Not being married, I volunteered to work in the infant nursery. So, I got to spend 3 more hours with Isaac and three other babies! It was a lot of fun. Home for a few hours and then it was off to babysit for Taylor with Kari. We had fun hanging out and using Taylor for a dust mop on the hardwood floor, uh, I mean watching her crawl back and forth between us! : ). Then once she went to bed and we had watched 3+ hours of TLC, we watched Enchanted! Yes, it's the second time in two weeks that I have watched it, but it's a happy movie and makes me laugh.

All in all, a very good weekend!

Off to bed, but here's a teaser for my next post...A Veggie Tales movie based on the Wizard of Oz. I borrowed it, but I think I'm going to have to purchase it for my own collection!

I LOVE that Veggie Tales movie. I swear that those movies are so much funnier to adults, than to kids!

Hi Teresa, this is Dawn from Texas in case you not sure who I am! I read your blog occassionally & I really like it! This entry was really sweet. Even though Valentine's is not your favorite, you showed love by caring for others children. I think the world needs more people who are willing to give of themselves.
