Pictures, Take 2

Grrr...still can't get it to work. How about a new computer for my birthday, Mom?! :) You asked for ideas....

Okay, so tomorrow I will attempt to upload the pictures from Dad and Amy's. Their computer is definitely faster.

But in the meantime, a client story. I think it's a new one, but I'm too lazy to actually look back and see if I've put it on my blog. I have a client who does not like to talk about me about personal thing, or even not-so-personal things (ironically, yes, my job is to talk to kids about personal things! Go figure...). Lately, he has been saying "None of your business!" after every question I ask him, including things like, "So what movie did you watch in class today?" So, I decided it was time to have a heart-to-heart with him. We have a really good conversation about how he doesn't have to talk to me about anything he doesn't want to, but that we did need to help him learn a better way to communicate that to me. So, his first attempt at being less rude was to say, "Don't ask me that." Better, but let's try again. We finally came up with a great phrase he could use. Now when I ask him something he does not want to answer, he can say, "I don't feel comfortable talking about that right now." Ironically, I have seen him for 4 sessions since than and he has been more open with me than he has ever been! I guess he just needed permission to not talk in order to make him more comfortable to talk? I'm not sure, but it has been a huge blessing not to battle with him the last couple of weeks!

So, you all have permission to say, "Teresa, I'm not comfortable discussing that right now." if you need to. I've used it a couple of times with coworkers :)

Good for you! It's always nice to see your work take effect. Glad he has finally opened up to you.

I used this line on Jill, she didn't quite like the humor, since she somehow read your blog before my email. Oh well, it was worth a try.
